Heart Balloon

A crocheted Heart Balloon is a simple project that can add a little whimsy to your day. Make one for yourself or a loved one.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

The pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions and full video tutorial to help you along the way. Heart Balloons are crocheted in continuous spirals without joining the rounds.  I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. I place my locking stitch marker in the last stitch of the round, but please place your stitch marker in your preferred spot. Heart Balloons are crocheted in worsted weight yarn but can be made in any weight yarn. Be aware that size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

NOTE: Heart on a stick should not be given to small children as it can be a choking hazard.

    (directions for this round written below)

  • R6: (dec, sc in next 8 sts) 2 times {18 sts}
  • R7: (dec, sc in next 4 sts) 3 times {15 sts}
  • R8: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 3 times {12 sts}
  • Begin to stuff the heart and continue as you crochet. (If you'd like your heart to have a face, place 6mm safety eyes between R6/7. Leaving 2 stitches open between the eyes. Embroider on a smile between R7/8 when the heart is finished.)
  • R9: (dec, sc in next st) 4 times {8 sts}
  • R10: (dec) 4 times {4 sts}
  • Fasten off and leave a tail.
  • Place a bit of hot glue or fabric glue onto the tip of the popsicle stick and secure it inside the small hole left from Round 10. Wrap the yarn tail around the stick twice at the base of the heart and make a knot in the back of the heart. Weave in the remaining yarn and let the heart sit for a few hours or overnight to dry.

    NOTE: Heart on a stick should NOT be given to small children as it can be a choking hazard.

  • If you want to make a stuffed heart, without the stick, fasten off and leave a long piece of yarn to sew the heart shut. Weave the rest of the yarn into the heart.
