Chubby giraffe amigurumi free pattern

In this blog post, I share this chubby giraffe made out of my left over yarn from my Giraffe wall hangingmother Doll and a giraffe rattle toy. It is a simple pattern, with a complete video tutorial and suitable for amigurumi beginners. Also, it is fast to crochet!

Chubby Giraffe free amigurumi pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • I used DK microfiber yarn colors yellow and brown. But you can use any yarn of your preference!
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

HEAD

With yellow yarn start,

1 row  6sc in a magic ring

2 row  6inc Total 12sts

3 row  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 row  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 row  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 row  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

7 row  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

8 row  (13sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 45sts

9 to 16 row  45sc

17 row  (13sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 42sts

18 row  (5sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 36sts

19 row  (4sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 30sts

20 row  (3sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 24sts

21 row  (2sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 18sts

• Stop to add stuffing material

22 row  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 12sts

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the remaining tail inside the toy.

ANTENNAS

With brown yarn start,

1 row  6sc in a magic ring

2 row  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 9sts

3 row  9sc

4 row  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 6sts

5 and 6 row   6sc

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

• Make another one.

EARS

With yellow yarn start,

1 row  4sc in a magic ring

2 row  4sc

3 row  4inc Total 8sts

4 row  8sc

5 row  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times Total 12sts

6 row  12sc

7 row  6dec Total 6sts

8 and 9 row  6sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

LEGS

With brown yarn start,

1 row  6sc in a magic ring

2 row  6inc Total 12sts

3 row  12bpsc

• For the next 7 rows, add the yellow color yarn and start combining with making uneven stripes.

4 to 10 row  12sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

• Make four in total.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Use pins to fasten the ears and antennas on Giraffe’s head.
  2. Start sewing the ears first in between rows 7 to 9.
  3. Then, sew the antennas in the same line as the ears with 2 rows distance from the antennas to the ears.
  4. Sew the nose between rows 9 to 16
  5. Sew the four legs in the central part of the bottom of the head. Here, sew first the front 2 and then the two on the back
  6. Embroider the eyes in row 9 leaving 8 stitches between them.
