This little textured crochet baby bunny hat pattern is so easy to make and the cute ears are added afterwards so if you can just leave them off if you’d prefer a regular hat instead. It comes in sizes Newborn, Baby and Toddler and is really easy to adapt if you’d like it bigger or smaller.

The perfect little Spring time gift for a new baby that just calls out for a photo shoot!

About the crochet baby bunny hat pattern

Having Oliver in our family now (he’s four months old) means an excuse for so much more handmade stuff but also to dig out everything that’s too small for Elliot now. It’s so much fun! Lots of people have asked us if we’re disappointed that we’ve got another boy (yes they really have asked that) and it makes me so sad that society sets us up to think like that.

Like lots of people we had a really tough time having children that included lots of fertility treatment, miscarriages and dark times so we could not imagine ever being disappointed with our family that we are so lucky to have. If anyone asks I just flippantly say that it’s great as it saves us so much in new clothes though!

It gives me so much pleasure to be able to reuse everything I made first time for Elliot and so with Spring approaching (hopefully soon..) I thought I’d share a free pattern for a cute little Bunny Baby Hat with you today.

Other Cute Crochet Patterns

Here are a few more ideas for cute crochet patterns that you might enjoy and make sure you check out these other Easter bunny crochet patterns and make sure to make these free Easter egg crochet patterns too – so many fun projects to choose from!

Here are a few of my other free crochet patterns you might enjoy making too:

Yarn

You can use any double knit yarn of your choice but I would recommend something with really lovely stitch definition such as Sublime Baby Cashmerino DK which is super soft and squishy and so delicate on little heads.

You will only need 1 ball of the main colour you choose and then a tiny amount of Cream colour for inside the ears.

Tension and Sizing

5 rounds of crown = 10cm but tension isn’t too essential for this project.

Sizes to fit: newborn, baby and toddler.

Materials

Along with your yarn, you will need the following:

4.5mm (US G+) crochet hook – my favourites are Furls Streamline Swirl crochet hooks or Clover Amour crochet hooks.
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitch markers if desired

Notes

The ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.

Work in the back loop (BL) only of each stitch until you reach the cuff section.

Outer Ears:

Using your main colour and work in continuous rounds –

Round 2: 2dc in each around [12]

Rounds 3-12: dc in each [12]

Just add a few rounds if you would like the ears slightly longer for bigger sizes.

Sew the ear inners to the outer, shape and sew in place on top of the hat.

If you’d prefer your ears to stand up rather than be a floppy bunny then just thread some thin wire through the outer ear before sewing in place on the hat.

Weave in all ends to complete.

That’s all there is to it!

I really hope you’ve enjoyed my pattern and have lots of fun both making and giving the hats.
