Crochet Shell Stitch Pink Baby Blanket

I’m thrilled to share my latest crochet design – the Pink Scallop Baby Blanket. It’s created using the crochet shell stitch. My friend is having a baby girl so I wanted to surprise her with a handmade gift. I love being able to share crochet pieces with others. And I’m doubly excited as the last couple of baby blankets were gender neutral – this time I was able to use pink yarn! šŸ˜Š

Design

There are so many stitches that our on my list and the shell stitch is at the top. I found the crochet shell stitch creates beautiful texture to the blanket. Because the stitches are tighter together, it also avoids little baby fingers and toes getting caught in the blanket. In addition, with this being a 1 row repeat pattern, it was very quick and easy to create this blanket.

For the border, I use a single crochet for the first round. This gives a nice base for the border.

Then there are 2 rows of double crochet stitches. I want something to separate the shells in the blanket from the shells in the border.

And the final round for the border is a shell stitch. For the shells on all sides, it consists of a group of 5 double crochet stitches with a single crochet in between each group. For the corners, I do 7 double crochets to make sure I’m able to round out the corners.

Materials

Yarn choice for this project was a pretty easy decision for me. I chose the Bernat Softee Baby yarn; I’ve used it in the past. I love how soft it is and the yarn is pretty easy to work with. It’s a perfect yarn to wrap up little ones!

For the hook, I chose a 5mm (H hook). After trying a couple different hooks sizes, I really liked how the shells looked with the 5mm.
