I sometimes include affiliate links in my blog posts. That means I earn a small commission if you purchase any of the products I recommend, on no extra costs on your behalf. Thank you for supporting my work!

The dishcloth itself is very basic, however, you can make it more interesting by adding some fun appliqués on it! You can make a fun pot as I did, or you can go and search for other applicué patterns on Pinterest or Google.

Or, if you want to keep it more simple, just make the dishcloth. It is a pretty and basic stitch so it will look great no matter what.

The thermal stitch

For this project, I used the thermal stitch. This is an easy one-row repeat stitch that will add a thick texture to your crochet potholder. It feels like a double layer, so this perfect for a potholder!

When crocheting the thermal stitch, you are working in the back loop only and in the remaining loop from the stitch below. I have made a video tutorial this time, so you can find all the details on how to crochet the potholder there.

Materials

I recommend using 100% cotton yarn when creating potholders and such for the kitchen. Acrylic yarn can flammable and can melt, so that’s not a good idea!

You will need about 70-80 g of yarn for one potholder. I used a yarn from Garnstudio called Drops Paris and 50 g = 75 m. You will also need a contrasting color for the border around and the little pot appliqué.
