Fuzzy Chick Gift Buddy

Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

No-Sew Fuzzy Chick Gift Buddy is a charming mini Easter basket that’s just the right size for candy, gift cards, and small surprises, making it an adorable handmade gift.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner (feels comfortable with fuzzy yarn)

This no-sew pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions and pictures to help you along the way. Fuzzy Chick Gift Buddy is crocheted in the round/continuous spirals without joining the rounds. I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. Fuzzy Chick Gift Buddy is crocheted in bulky (5) fuzzy yarn and is approximately 2 inches tall. Be aware that size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

HEAD

  • Using color or choice
  • R1: 6 sc into a magic circle {6 sts}
  • R2: (inc) 6 times {12 sts}
  • R3: (inc, sc) 6 times {18 sts}
  • R4: (inc, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • R5: (inc, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {30 sts}
  • R6-16: sc in next 30 sts {30 sts}
  • For R17 we will crochet the wings. Optional but recommended: Mark the back loop only of stitch 9 and stitch 22 with a stitch marker.
  • We will work the wings into the front loops of the marked stitches.
  • Feel free to mark the first and last single crochet of the wing with a stitch marker. This will help for R18.
  • R17: sc in next 8 sts, {wing: in next flo; sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc }, sc in next 12 sts, {wing: in next flo; sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc }, sc in next 8 sts {30 sts}
  • As we work R18, we will work into the back loop that we marked, not the stitches of the wing.
  • After you work into the back loop, reach your hook over into the next stitch - the one next to your marked wing stitch.
  • R18: sc in next 8 sts, sc in marked blo, sc in next 12 sts, sc in marked blo, sc in next 8 sts {30 sts}
  • Pause here to add the beak and the eyes. Make sure to place a stitch marker in your working yarn to secure it. With R1 facing up, locate the middle stitch of R14 and R15, between the wings. Feel free to place a pin to keep the middle spot marked.
  • Grab a long piece of orange yarn and make a knot on one end. Weave the yarn into a yarn needle and secure it with a knot on the inside of the head. Move over a stitch, from your pin, and go up through a stitch of the head.
  • Leave one stitch open and then go down into the next stitch.
  • Embroidering a simple beak.
  • Place 14mm safety eyes between R14 and R15 next to the beak. Secure the safety eyes.
  • R19-20: sc in next 30 sts {30 sts}
  • R21: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • R22: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {18 sts}
  • R23: (dec, sc) 6 times {12 sts}
  • R24: (dec) 6 times {6 sts}
  • Leave a long tail and fasten off. Close the head.
  • You will have an odd shape at this time. Starting with R1, roll and tuck the piece in until you reach around R11. This double layer makes for a sturdier base for more goodies!
  • Weave your yarn up through the bottom and down through the inside of the cup to pull the bottom up a bit. Weave the yarn through the piece.
  • Optional: Add a tuft of hair to the top of your gift buddy.
  • Place a crochet hook under a stitch at the top of R11.
  • Grab a small piece of yarn and fold it in half. Using your crochet hook, grab the yarn by the middle fold.
  • Pull the yarn through the stitch stopping halfway. You’ll have a large loop on one side and two loose yarn ends on the other.
  • Insert the loose end of the yarn through the loop.
  • Tighten the yarn at the base of the head.
  • Trim if needed.
  • Enjoy your sweet fuzzy chick gift buddy!
  • Fill him up with some Easter candy!
  • Add a gift card for an extra surprise!
  • Have a Happy Easter!
