Kitty Desk Buddy

Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Whether you’re crafting, working, or just need a cute little friend to keep you company, Kitty Desk Buddy is sure to brighten your day and keep your supplies organized in style!

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

This no-sew pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions, pictures, and video tutorial to help you along the way. Desk Kitty is crocheted in the round/continuous spirals without joining the rounds. I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. Desk Kitty is crocheted in super bulky chenille yarn and is approximately 3 inches tall to the top of the ear and 2 inches tall to the cup. Be aware that size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

    Right and left hand video tutorials available for this pattern in the pattern example above. Watch the step-by-step video

  • Make a slipknot and chain 7
  • R1: sc in the 2nd chain from hook, sc in next 5 ch sts,
  • Working down the other side of the chain
  • sc in next 6 ch sts {12 sts}
  • We’re working in continuous rounds.
  • R2: (inc, sc) 6 times {18 sts}
  • R3: (inc, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • R4: sc in next 24 sts {24 sts}
  • R5: (inc, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {30 sts}
  • R6: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • R7: sc in next 24 sts {24 sts}
  • R8: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {18 sts}
  • R9: sc in next 18 sts {18 sts}
  • R10 we’re making the ears. Using stitch markers, mark the back loops only of the 4th and 8th stitch.

    Watch the step-by-step video tutorial for the ears.

  • All ear stitches will be worked into the marked front loop. I suggest marking the first sc and last sc of each ear as it’s helpful for R11.
  • R10: sc in next 3 sts, [ear: in next flo, sc, hdc, dc, ch 1, hdc, sc all in the same stitch], sc in next 3 sts, [ear: in next flo, sc, hdc, dc, ch 1, hdc, sc all in the same stitch], sc in next 10 sts {18 sts} counting the marked back loops, not the flo stitches of the ears.
  • For R11: As we work this round, we will work into the back loops that we marked for R10 and not into the marked stitches of the ear. After you work into the marked back loop, reach your hook over into the next stitch - the one next to your marked ear stitch.

    Watch the step-by-step video tutorial for R11.

  • R11: sc in next 3 sts, sc into marked back loop st, sc in next 3 sts, sc into marked back loop st, sc in next 10 sts {18 sts}
  • R12: (inc, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • Feel free to mark R13 for help with eye placement later.
  • R13-14: sc in next 24 sts {24 sts}
  • R15: (inc, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {30 sts}
  • R16: sc in next 30 sts {30 sts}
  • R17: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • For R18, we’ll be crocheting small bobbles, bobbles and the tail. All bobbles will be worked in the front loops only.

    Watch the step-by-step video tutorial for R18.

  • R18: sc in next 2 sts, flo bobble, sc in next 3 sts, flo small bobble, sc in next 3 sts, flo small bobble, sc in next 3 sts, flo bobble, sc in next 7 sts [tail: chain 13, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 11 sts], sc in next 2 sts {24 sts}
  • Place 14mm safety eyes between R14 and R15, leaving 3 sts open between the eyes. With pink or black thread/yarn, create a nose by embroidering a line, in between the eyes, between R14 and 15. Feel free to place a line going vertical below the nose. Embroider three lines on each cheek to make whiskers. See video for help.
  • R19: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {18 sts} When you get to the tail, hold the tail down and crochet over top of it, reaching over to the last 2 sts.
  • R20: (dec, sc) 6 times {12 sts}
  • Fasten off and leave a long piece of yarn to sew the body shut.
  • Weave the tail into the top of the cat and slowly pull the yarn through.

    Watch the step-by-step video tutorial for forming the cup.

  • Roll/tuck the cup in as you go until you reach the ears.
  • This makes a sturdy cup for desk supplies!
  • I like to place a bit of fabric glue on the tail and glue it straight up in the back of the cup.
  • Feel free to let it hang if you’d like.
  • I hope you enjoy your desk buddy!!
