Fuzzy Pocket Chick

Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

No-Sew Fuzzy Pocket Chick is a fluffy companion that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Quick to crochet and irresistibly cute, it makes a sweet gift, desk buddy, or Easter basket surprise.

Skill Level: Intermediate

This no-sew pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions and pictures to help you along the way. Fuzzy Pocket Chick is crocheted in the round/continuous spirals without joining the rounds. I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. Fuzzy Pocket Chick is crocheted in bulky (5) fuzzy yarn and is approximately 2.5 inches tall. Be aware that size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

HEAD AND BODY

  • Using color or choice
  • R1: 6 sc into a magic circle {6 sts}
  • R2: (inc) 6 times {12 sts}
  • R3: (inc, sc) 6 times {18 sts}
  • R4: (inc, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times {24 sts}
  • R5: (inc, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times {30 sts}
  • R6-7: sc in next 30 sts {30 sts}
  • For R8 we will crochet the wings. Optional but recommended: mark the back loop only of stitch 9 and stitch 22 with a stitch marker.
  • We will work the wings into the front loops of the marked stitches.
  • Feel free to mark the first and last single crochet of the wing with a stitch marker. This will help for R9.
  • R8: sc in next 8 sts, {wing: in next flo; sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc }, sc in next 12 sts, {wing: in next flo; sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc }, sc in next 8 sts {30 sts}
  • As we work R9, we’ll work into the marked back loops, not the stitches of the wing.
  • After you work into the back loop, reach your hook over into the next stitch - the one next to your marked wing stitch.
  • R9: sc in next 8 sts, sc in marked blo, sc in next 12 sts, sc in marked blo, sc in next 8 sts {30 sts}
  • Pause here to add the beak and the eyes. Make sure to place a stitch marker in your working yarn to secure it.
  • With R1 facing up, locate the middle stitch of R7 and R8, between the wings. Feel free to place a pin to keep the middle spot marked.
  • Grab a long piece of orange (or your color choice) yarn and make a knot on one end. Weave the yarn into a yarn needle and secure it with a knot on the inside of the head. Move over a stitch, from your pin, and go up through a stitch of the head.
  • Leave one stitch open and go down into the next stitch, embroidering a simple beak. Secure the yarn on the inside of the head.
  • Place 14mm safety eyes between R7 and R8 next to the beak. Secure the safety eyes.
  • R10-11: sc in next 30 sts {30 sts}
  • R12 we’re making bobble stitches. Using the same color used for the beak, change colors (CC) on the bobble stitches.
  • To ensure your bobbles are centered, locate the three stitches directly beneath the beak. Place a marker in the stitch on each side of these three stitches.
  • Work the bobbles in the front loop only (FLO) of the marked stitches.

  • R15: (dec, sc) 6 times {12 sts}
  • R16: (dec) 6 times {6 sts}
  • Leave and long tail and fasten off. Close the head.
  • Optional: Add a tuft of hair to the top of the head.
  • Place a crochet hook under a stitch at the top of the head. Grab a small piece of yarn and fold it in half. Using your hook, grab the yarn by the middle fold.
  • Pull the yarn through the stitch stopping halfway. You’ll have a large loop on one side and two loose yarn ends on the other.
  • Insert the loose end of the yarn through the loop.
  • Tighten the yarn at the base of the head. Trim if needed.
