Kai The Kitty

Kai The Kitty is the sleepiest kitty around. She can nap just about anywhere, and will become your best friend if you let her snuggle up next to you.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

The pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions and  pictures to help you along the way. Kai The Kitty is crocheted in continuous spirals without joining the rounds. I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. Kai The Kitty is crocheted in worsted weight yarn and is approximately three inches tall.  Be aware that the final size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

    Watch the step-by-step video tutorial for the nose and eyes.

  • Thread 2 long strands of pink yarn through a needle and knot one end.
  • Place a pin in the middle of the head at R13 and R14. This will help to center the nose.
  • On the inside of the head, pick up a bit of yarn with your needle and make a knot.
  • Begin to embroider the nose over 2 stitches between R13 and R14.
  • Thread a long piece of black embroidery floss through a needle. Knot the end.
  • On the inside of the head, near the nose, pick up a bit of yarn with your needle and make a knot.
  • Begin to embroider into the stitch to the right of the nose.
  • Insert your needle one round up and one stitch over.
  • Make a knot on the inside of the head, then insert your needle back through the same stitch.
  • Insert your needle one round down and one stitch over.
  • Make a knot on the inside of the head. Then insert your needle back through the same stitch.
  • Insert your needle one round up to make the first eyelash.
  • Move your needle up to make the second eyelash. Secure with a knot on the inside of the head.
  • Repeat on the other side. Begin to embroider into the stitch to the left of the nose.
  • R17: (dec, sc in next 4 sts) 8 times {40 sts}
  • R18: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 8 times {32 sts}
  • R19: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) 8 times {24 sts}
  • Begin to stuff the head and continue as you crochet.

    Make sure not to overstuff. You want the top to lay flat.

  • R20: (dec, sc in next st) 8 times {16 sts}
  • R21: (dec) 8 times {8 sts}
  • Fasten off and leave a long piece of yarn to sew the head shut. Set aside until assembly.
